More than just a birthday party ...

More than just a birthday party ...

Mel and her partner have been together for seven and a half years.

During their time together they have added a puppy and three young boys, making up their family unit.  Growing their team, along with the bustle of life meant that wedding planning had taken the back seat.

Having talked about it on and off, Mel and Kaide started to seriously talk about sealing the deal (so to speak) around a year ago.

Mel had always wanted a big celebration for another milestone that was coming in the following year, her 40th birthday!

The idea arose of a planning a surprise wedding which would take place in front of their nearest and dearest at Mel's 40th birthday party.

Having a surprise wedding was appealing as it took away all of the fuss and and over the top nature that comes along with weddings.

Making sure it was exactly what they wanted to do, they sat on the idea for quite a while before deciding to get into it and tie the knot at Mel's big birthday bash!

Mel came to us at Strutt for her THE DRESS for her sneaky surprise.

The dress that ticked almost all of the boxes was a Bariano strapless number with lace texture. Now as we all know, perfection isn't a one step process, and Mel worked with Rhonda to tweak the dress to get the dress looking like it had been made just for Mel.

Rhonda conveyed the creative imagery to our other senior dress maker, Helen, and the pair chopped, sewed, pinned and placed down to the finest details to bring the vision to life.

We created and added halter neck straps to the strapless sweetheart bodice and a belt around the waist to show off Mel's stunning silhouette.

The dress had matching fabric pieces added to the side of the bodice as well as extra boning.

The back of the waist was lifted, which meant that the zip was removed and then put back in once the lifting and the attaching of the belt was done.

To tailor the dress to Mel's figure, we placed horizontal darts in the back, as well as cups in the bust to give her ease of wear.

The back of the hem hem was let down and a false hem applied to give a slight train effect.

Altering and customising your wedding dress ensures you have the perfect fit for YOUR body, and means you can add any details big or small to create the dress of your dreams that not only makes you look a million dollars, but makes you feel it too.

We wish you both a lifetime of happiness together darlings!

Love, the Strutt team.
